About Sonya M., CLS — The Science Behind NutritionAdvice

About Sonya M., CLS

NutritionAdvice is curated by Sonya M., CLS, a Clinical Laboratory Scientist with more than 20 years of diagnostic laboratory experience. Sonya created this platform to help adults — especially women navigating midlife — make clearer, more informed decisions about supplements, nutrition, and laboratory health information.

Why I Built This

After two decades in clinical diagnostics, I saw a consistent pattern: patients received lab results they didn't understand, made supplement choices based on marketing rather than evidence, and had no reliable resource to bridge the gap between laboratory science and everyday wellness decisions.

NutritionAdvice exists to close that gap. Every product, article, and guide on this site is selected through the lens of a laboratory scientist — not a trend, not a sponsorship.

My Credentials

I hold a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) certification, which reflects formal training and licensure in clinical laboratory science, including hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology, and blood banking. My background gives me a working understanding of how biomarkers behave, what reference ranges mean in context, and how nutrition and supplementation intersect with measurable health outcomes.

How I Select Products

Every product featured on NutritionAdvice is reviewed against the following criteria:

  • Ingredient quality — form, bioavailability, and dosage relative to available research
  • Labeling transparency — clear ingredient disclosure, no proprietary blends obscuring key doses
  • Third-party certification — preference for products with NSF, USP, Informed Sport, or equivalent verification where available
  • Known safety considerations — contraindications, drug interactions, and population-specific cautions
  • Available research — peer-reviewed evidence supporting the ingredient's intended use

Inclusion on this site does not guarantee that a product is appropriate for every individual. Always consult your healthcare provider before starting any new supplement, especially if you have a chronic condition or take prescription medications.

My Other Platforms

In addition to NutritionAdvice, I run two companion resources:

  • AskSonya.ai — An AI-powered wellness assistant trained on evidence-based nutrition and lab literacy content, designed to help you ask better questions before your next appointment.
  • The Patient's Compass — A navigation resource for patients managing chronic conditions, helping you understand your diagnosis, your labs, and your options.

A Note on This Site

NutritionAdvice is an educational and curated retail resource. It is not a medical practice and does not provide personalized medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. The information presented here is intended to support informed conversations with your healthcare team — not to replace them.
